Want to learn more about how governing or advisory board members view their role? Have a burning question you can’t or don’t want to ask your own board? This session will allow public library staff, managers, directors, board members or trustees to use anonymous polling technology so you can ask your questions in a safe setting. Panelists represent a diverse set of different size public libraries, board philosophies and public library operating types. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how boards help set priorities for scarce resources, interact and impact the daily work of public libraries (especially strategic planning, budgeting, and programming) and how to foster good relations with the board in your community. Come pull back the curtain on how boards function and how you can build your relationship with your board!

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Attendees will better understand how to interact more effectively with their board members, library director/administrators, and staff.
  2. Attendees will apply their understandings in ways that are more impactful on the daily work of public libraries.
  3. Attendees can apply suggestions for interactions that foster good relations with the board in their community.
