We’ve all been there. Someone asks you to recommend a work on a topic you know nothing about and you freeze. Or you walk someone to the shelf for that famous title you know you must have and...you don’t have it. Denver Public Library is working to empower staff and fight the awkwardness by developing a core collection. This session will examine the philosophy of core collections, as well as methods to create, promote, and evaluate your own. Hands-on activities will inspire participants to explore the possibility of developing a core collection in your library.
Learning Outcomes:- Attendees will be able to define a core collection and understand its benefits.
- Attendees will learn strategies to create and implement core collections at their own libraries.
- Attendees will be able to begin brainstorming a core collection process that works for their specific environments.
