Explore the principles of free speech and assembly in public places and learn how to control materials collections, art displays, meeting rooms and other public places; and, how to handle protests and challenges when they arise.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Attendees will learn the principles of freedom of speech, access and assembly guaranteed by the United States Constitution and how they operate in different contexts.
  2. Attendees will be able to analyze situations and incidents on library property and determine proper and permissible limitations on speech and activity in the library and on its grounds.
  3. Attendees should apply their knowledge to develop policies and procedures to avoid conflict and challenges in their libraries.
